Life update 002: Strangers in the City
Come to work with me, girl vs. burnout and how to make new friends
Flowers: Thank you for your incredible comments and DMs on the first issue of my life update. Can’t wait to keep sharing more with you all, and let’s see where this takes us. I’m actually in the middle of major life transitions, so when things fall into place, you’ll be the only people on the internet to know the details.

Oh, and this
One thing about Rihanna? She is going to devour every single editorial she has. You’ve probably heard she’s launching a haircare line too — and the people have notes. So do I. But we’ll cover that in my marketing newsletter on Monday, sign up here.
Come to work with me
For the last 2 months, my team and I have been planning a campaign for an amazing brand and product. We recently had our first of 1.5 shoots — between crew, clients and cast there were over 24 people on set and it was one of my smoothest shoots ever. I can’t wait for you to see the final ad, stay tuned.
It always blows people’s minds how much time, effort and money goes into creating any form of content. It really is a labour of love, and to think I started my career in consulting and now I’m here is radical. But a wise man once said, ‘you can only connect the dots backwards’ and that is pretty much the tagline of my career.
Girl vs. Burnout
When you’re burning out people tell you to sleep! go on vacation! stop doing things! But this week my calendar had me out every single evening this week and I have only felt more energised and better for it*. Sometimes burnout isn’t about stopping, it’s about resting from the thing that’s dominating your time and refocusing on the other things that bring you joy.
You can’t be Chained to the Desk forever.
This included…
Strangers in the City Launch — Chanté Joseph invited me to the launch of her new initiative and it was fabulous. You probably know by now that I love nothing more than a DMC (deep meaningful convo), so meeting complete strangers over some good food and drinks was such a lovely change of scene from the daily grind of life. Even for an introvert like me, and ESPECIALLY when your team of two wins that pop culture quiz! (What can I say, I like to win. ‘#itsalifestylehun’). Follow them to find out when the next edition drops.
I wore this top for the first time to the event and I’m KICKING myself that I didn’t get a good picture! The struggle. I did get a quick selfie though and all I’ll say is that this Foundation Stick - which I use as a bronzer (US link) has made me fall in love with doing my makeup again. The base was just perfect and I had no eye makeup, only skin products (see below).
GIRLS NIGHT! Two of my favourite Lagos babes are in town, so I put on my favourite jumper, took a trip to my favourite suburb and we ordered in, drank Sancerre and lay around wasting time. 10/10 would recommend.
This is my default comfort outfit (top left)
I wear this everywhere: the Adanola Sweater. This was a gift and I never expected it to be my favourite thing. The quality is perfect it’s thick but not too heavy. Get yours.
The perfect pair of soft black trousers. For the last 3 years I have bought so many that I thought would be my life default, and they never ever lived up to it… until now. These can be dressed up or dressed down. Of course I bought them in bulk.
Uggs because it may be June, but this is England. Let’s all be guided.
How to Make New Friends
If there’s one piece of advice I’d give around making new friends, it’s this.
Sometimes a catch-up over dinner feels quite intense for people you’re building relationships with, a fun activity is a great way to bond. A friend I’ve had for just over a year and I always joke that we rarely have catch-ups, instead it’s ‘do you want to go to this concert in Paris?’ ‘do you want to take a trip to New York’? Dramatic and extreme but it’s working for us.
As I finalise this life update on my way back from girls’ night, my Uber driver is playing millennial throwbacks. I’m sure this was my morning alarm at some point lmao.
Have a great weekend!
Footnote
*it’s important to highlight this may vary during the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle. If this is news to you, we’re going to talk about understanding and planning around your hormone cycle in another life update. Stay tuned.
Already looking forward to the next one. It's always filling reading from you.
Really enjoyed reading this!
